Youth Work Permits

Do You Need A Work Permit?

If you are a youth aged 14-17 who resides in Woonsocket, Youth Work Permits can now be completed at your school during school hours. This should make the process much easier and time efficient. Please follow the steps below to ensure it is completed properly.

If you attend private school, charter school, or attend school out of District, please see below for procedures and necessary forms to obtain your permit.

  • WED Students: Bring the completed form signed by both your parent and your prospective employer to your school's guidance department. You will be issued a Work Permit to return to your supervisor for your employee file. If you change jobs, you will need to repeat this process. Each permit is only valid for a single job site or until you turn 18.
  • Non-WED Students OR Minors Seeking Permit When Schools are Closed:  Bring the appropriate completed form (linked above) signed by both your parent and your prospective employee, along with documentation showing your Date of Birth (Birth Certificate, Driver’s License/Permit, Passport, etc.) to the McFee Building at 108 High Street. You must be present for a permit to be issued. We cannot issue a permit to a parent as it must be signed by the youth. A Youth Work Permit will be issued to return to your supervisor for your employee file. If you change jobs, you will need to repeat this process. Each permit is only valid for a single job site or until you turn 18.

If you have questions regarding this process, please reach out to your Middle/High School Secretary or Guidance Department, or Human Resources at 401-767-4600.
