| PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The School-to-Work Center offers an integrated learning system which provides a connection between work-based and school-based training. Students enrolled in one of the career and technical programs or academies at WACTC participate in a Work Readiness program. In addition, all students who are eligible have the opportunity to participate in one or more of the School-to-Work Transitional Skills programs. |
| FACILITIES: The Center consists of a large room which is a combination of classroom and computer space. There are thirty-two (32) computer stations networked through WACTC's Technology Center. All students enrolled at WACTC begin a work portfolio their first year. By the time a student graduates, they have an electronic work portfolio to take with them when they leave. WORK READINESS: The purpose of this program is to provide students with basic job skills. Students have the opportunity to prepare documents they will need as they enter the world of work. These documents include but are not limited to, copies of a resume, references, cover letters, thank you letters, employer evaluations, and placement evaluations. Students learn what type of work will best suit their strengths. They learn how to find a job, apply for a job, keep a job, and leave one job for another. SCHOOL-TO-WORK TRANSITIONAL SKILLS PROGRAM : This program is a supervised, coordinated, and accredited program where students from WACTC gain a realistic work experience in an occupational field related to their studies. These additional curriculum offerings include such things as Apprenticeship, Cooperative Education Placement, Internship, Job Placement, Job Shadowing, Mentorship, Structured Field Study, and Work Readiness Placement. These different options are considered as a course offering in the same manner as any subject in the daily class schedule. In addition, some are offered for course credit. CERTIFICATE OPTIONS: The School-to-Work Center provides all students at WACTC the opportunity to obtain certified assessments of their basic abilities that can be used in their work portfolios as part of a job search. These certifications take the form of such things as keyboarding accuracy, visual speed and accuracy, numerical ability, and visual speed and accuracy. |
