PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:New Media is a term which covers the recently created and rapidly evolving new forms of communication that have arisen due to the convergence of computer and communications technology.

Much of the work is project based, requiring students to work in teams and use new media technology to become discoverers and creators of knowledge.

The academy has been designed to allow students to follow any of the three career paths: going on to college, enrolling in a technical school or entering the workforce directly.

FACILITIES:
The Cox Communications New Media students have the opportunity to work in a bi-platform fully equipped computer lab. Some specific programs being used are: iMovie, Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and Studio MX.

CURRENT HAPPENINGS:
Students in the New Media program are currently developing and editing television quality videos.

Monthly "Breakfast Club" meetings are being held in partnership with Cox Communications where employees met and inform students about specific job requirements and future opportunities with he company. Meetings will include such topics as: Customer Service, product Development, Human Resources and resume preparation, and Production.

FUTURE HAPPENINGS:
Cox Communication New Media students will be participating in an exclusive Line to Learning Videoconferencing event titled, "Behind the Scene at CNN: The News You Don't See". CNN is teaming up with Cox Communications to give students an inside look at the newsgathering and reporting process Students will travel the world via fiber-optic technology in a way they have never imagined possible.

Students will be developing and creating a CD entitled, "WACTC Showcase". The students will be responsible to gather information, and footage for all programs offered at WACTC, highlighting specifics for each area. The goal is to offer a promotional CD to all interested and potential; future students of WACTC.
