PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Construction Technology program prepares students for employment in the architectural and building construction industries.  All aspects of house construction are covered, from the design and layout of the house, to the finished structure.  Students will receive basic instruction in electrical wiring and plumbing. On-site training allows the students to receive hands-on experiences in the community.


FACILITIES:
The program has close to 6000 sq. ft. of work space on site.  A full complement of both hand and power tools are available in the lab.  Both indoor and outdoor work areas are used.

CURRENT HAPPENINGS:
A few of the projects currenly underway in the Construction Technology program are, the resoration of Rhode Island's Merci Boxcar, office space construction (Woonsocket planning), and playground construction (here at WACTC for the Child Studies program).

FUTURE HAPPENINGS:
Many community projects are being planned.  Restoration projects appear to be high on the list. The cooperation with the city of Woonsocket and local construction companies and individuals has made many opportunities available to the students.

CERTIFICATE OPTIONS: 
The Construction Technology program is currently exploring affiliations with various organizations. An agreement is in place with the New England Institute of Technology.  An active advisory board is assisting in this area.
