Welcome to the Kevin K. Coleman Elementary School web site.  Our staff members take a great deal of pride in providing our students with a variety of developmentally-appropriate educational opportunities.  We strive to allow our students to experience what it takes to become successful individuals in today's diverse society and we stress the importance of community and family ties.

Kevin K. Coleman Elementary School is located in the western section of Woonsocket known as Fairmount. Construction of the school was completed in 1963 and it was initially operated as an elementary parochial school by Sacred Heart Parish.  In the spring of 1977, Sacred Heart sold the building to the city.  The following September, the facility opened as Fairmount Elementary School.  On September 30, 1981, the building was renamed as Kevin K. Coleman Elementary School in a special dedication ceremony in honor of a highly respected former mayor. The building now serves approximately 300 children in grades three, four, and five.  Kindergarten through grade two are housed in Fifth Avenue, our neighborhood school.

Kevin K. Coleman School also offers remedial reading, resource, special education, ESL, counseling and speech and language therapy. Our school has a media center with an extensive collection of print and non-print material and a twenty-five station computer lab. A school-wide grant makes it possible for us to offer before and after-school literacy programs.  We have a school/business partnership with Brooks Pharmacy and together have awarded scholarships to a number of former Coleman students.  In keeping with the spirit of the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation, our school undertakes a number of community service projects throughout the year.  The Woonsocket Shelter, Hasbro Children's Hospital and area nursing homes are among the benefactors of our students' good deeds.

We invite you to our web site to explore what is happening here at Kevin K. Coleman School, home of the Coleman Cubs, the Pride of Fairmount.
