Substitute Application Process

Anyone interested in subbing as a teacher, teacher assistant, custodian, secretary, or lunch aide, must come by the Woonsocket Education Department Administration Building at 108 High Street on a Tuesday or Thursday between 2:00 and 4:00 pm or on a Wednesday or Friday between 8:00 and 10:00 am to pick up an application. Once completed, the application may be returned to the same location within the same timeframe. Bring with you a valid driver’s license with either your social security card, your birth certificate, or a current passport. You will then be contacted to set up an interview with a department administrator. Once hired, you are required to have a National Background Check (which costs forty dollars) done at the Attorney General’s Office in Cranston or your local police department.

Additional requirements:

Teachers:  official transcripts, Certificate

Teacher Assistants:  TA Certificate, Para Pro results, or college credits/transcripts

Lunch Aides: Civil Rights Training Video required yearly (done through School Department)

Note: To be considered for a permanent position within the Woonsocket School Department, custodians and secretaries are required to pass a basic test based on their content area. These tests are administered regularly.

You may contact Patty Biernacki, Human Resources Secretary with further inquiries.
